On Saturday June 18th, a community of runners got together in London, UK, with the team from BUFF for its first global plogging event. With runners picking up trash and litter while jogging, BUFF noted that the initiative saw runners… ‘do more now and leave positive change in their wakes.’
From London to Calgary, Barcelona and beyond BUFF has got runners together, picking up litter in a range of areas and communities. The apparel firm has been documenting and sharing stories to highlight the issues and environmental impacts as the runners progressed.
In London, BUFF partnered with ‘Your Friendly Runners’ a running crew based in Hackney in the East of the city. The Your Friendly Runners (YFR) group has grown to over 150 active members. YFR meets for a weekly 10k on Saturday mornings and at other times during the week. It operates with the purpose of making running accessible for everyone while building a community for anyone who loves to run, at any level.
Over 60 ‘Your Friendly Runners’ were in attendance taking part in a ‘10 before 10’ helping BUFF to collect 50 refuse bags / 1,407 individual items of trash removed from the streets of Hackney.
Combined globally across its other events in Barcelona, Calgary and Munich, BUFF collected a total of 140 bags + 1 shopping cart of trash, weighing in at 540kg.
