Giro unveils new Eclipse Spherical road helmet

Giro Sport Design has announced the release of Eclipse Spherical, which is billed as ‘the fastest road helmet and coolest aero road helmet in the peloton.’

Built around the added protection of Spherical Technology powered by Mips, the Giro Eclipse helmet is available from authorized Giro retailers and on giro.com for an MSRP of US$250 / €259.95 / £239.99 / AU$429.99.

“In our many years of testing hundreds of helmets, the new Eclipse is the fastest road helmet we’ve tested, yet we refused to compromise protection, heat management, or comfort,” said Giro’s Director of Product Development Ben Penner.

“We spent countless hours in our in-house wind tunnel making it fast, but also used our unique Therminator heat-measuring head form to utilize the same airflow to keep the helmet super comfortable.

“In the end, we ended up with our fastest road helmet ever that cools better than most helmets lacking any aero advantages.”

At the heart of the Eclipse Spherical are its 14 Wind Tunnel vents. These vents pull air through the helmet to decrease aerodynamic drag and provide cooling. A sleek outer shell further helps to streamline airflow to reduce drag across multiple wind angles.

Inside the helmet, the ball-and-socket design of Spherical Technology is powered by the Mips brain protection system. This allows the helmet’s outer EPS foam liner to rotate around the inner foam liner during a crash to help redirect impact forces away from the brain. Progressive Layering of both the inner and outer liners help to offer more comprehensive protection too.

A patented Roc Loc 5 Air system enhances stability and fit, and plush antimicrobial Ionic+ padding helps absorb sweat and moisture while providing durable anti-microbial performance.
