The route and the new jersey of the Enel Green Power Gran Fondo Il Lombardia in Italy have been unveiled.
This year’s Gran Fondo event will take place on Sunday, October 9, 2022, the day after the pro cyclist race, and will offer enthusiast cyclists the opportunity to compete on the climbs that have made the ‘Classic of Dead Leaves’’ unique.
This year’s departure and arrival are in Cantù and the route features two ‘monument’ climbs, Sormano and Ghisallo. The organising team add that there are a mix of climbs and descents that ‘guarantee constant fun for all the sportive riders.’
For this year’s edition, both the race package collection and the event village will be situated in Como, within the Canottieri Lario / Stadio area, allowing registered riders to follow live coverage of the arrival of the pros contesting Il Lombardia, on Saturday.
Designed and produced by Castelli, the new Gran Fondo Il Lombardia jersey is inspired by the roads and surrounding nature of the region. The grey and green colours of the jersey represent components of the landscape, whilst the jersey also features writing imprinted on an image of the Muro di Sormano. Registered riders will receive their own jersey inside the race pack.
Mauro Vegni, RCS Sport Cycling Director, said “The philosophy of the Gran Fondo is to position it the day after the pro race. It is a very selective route with Sormano and Ghisallo, climbs that have made the history of Il Lombardia.
“The novelty of this year is that the village and race pack collection will be on Saturday in Como to allow all those registered in the Gran Fondo to be able to follow the finale of Il Lombardia live. We are sure that this year too the choice of combining Il Lombardia with its Gran Fondo on the same weekend will be successful.”
