For the first time since 2012, the city of Penticton, British Columbia, Canada, played host to the 2022 Subaru IRONMAN Canada triathlon on Sunday, August 28.
Approximately 1,500 athletes took part in the full-distance IRONMAN event. Athletes undertook a 3.8km (2.4-mile) swim, 180km (112-mile) bike, and 42km (26.2-mile) run through Okanagan Lake and the surrounding areas before culminating in a finish on Lakeshore Drive in downtown Penticton.
As IRONMAN noted in a release, this past weekend’s racing was reminiscent of prior IRONMAN events that took place in Penticton between 1983-2012.
Local pro triathlete Jeff Symonds (Penticton, BC, Canada) crossed the line as the first overall finisher with a time of 8:38:03. In the age group race, it was Cory Mayfield (Pasadena, CA) and Jessica Cullen (Waterloo, Ontario, Canada) who took victories, with times of 8:59:15 and 10:08:05, respectively.
The 2022 Subaru IRONMAN Canada offered 55 age-group qualifying slots for the 2023 VinFast IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i.
