IRONMAN Italy Emilia-Romagna celebrates fifth anniversary

The fifth edition of IRONMAN Italy Emilia-Romagna takes place on September 17, 2022, followed by IRONMAN 70.3 Emilia-Romagna the next day.

Marking its fifth anniversary, IRONMAN Italy Emilia-Romagna will feature a women’s professional field who will be battling it out for qualification to the 2023 VinFast IRONMAN World Championship taking place in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i

Live coverage of the event will be broadcast on IRONMAN Now on Facebook Watch, YouTube and Twitch .

IRONMAN Italy Emilia-Romagna has taken place in Italy since 2017, with Andreas Dreitz (GER) and Lucy Gossage (GBR) winning the inaugural event in the men and women’s race respectively.

The organisers add… ‘Fast forward to 2022 and there is a women’s professional field that will no doubt make for interesting viewing. Many will be intrigued to see how IRONMAN newcomer, Julie Derron (SUI), fairs at a long-distance triathlon event. Though this will be her first IRONMAN, the top seeded athlete will be the woman to beat come Saturday.’

Derron will be racing against fellow Swiss Joanna Ryter and Brit Chantal Sainter who both took third place in this year’s IRONMAN Texas and IRONMAN Cork respectively. Germans Kristin Liepold and Katharina Grohmann will also be strong contenders for a podium slot.

While Saturday sees pros and age-groupers line up to conquer the full IRONMAN distance, on Sunday the spotlight turns to IRONMAN 70.3 Italy Emilia-Romagna, which is an age group only event, completing a ‘festival weekend of racing in Cervia, Italy.’
