According to a report in the Denver Business Journal, Outside Inc (based in Colorado) plans to lay off 15% of its workforce. This may amount to almost 90 job losses out of the company’s 580 workforce.
The Denver Business Journal noted that Outside plans to reduce the publishing frequency of its print titles. It will reportedly also phase out three titles: MTB-specialist mag Beta, road cycling title Peloton and fitness title Oxygen.
Outside (formerly Pocket Outdoor Media) has been on an extensive acquisition trail in recent years. This process intensified in 2020 onwards. A key acquisition took place last summer when the company purchased Pinkbike, Cycling Tips and Trailforks.
Taking a digital-led approach, Outside+ subscription offering was launched in November 2021. Broadcast deals followed, such as those with IRONMAN, leveraging the Outside TV platform.
In March this year, Fastest Known Time (FKT) the endurance speed records website was purchased. And, most recently the Outside.io NFT marketplace & creator platform was unveiled.
