Cal Tri Events is providing its athlete community with what is being billed as ‘an industry leading transfer and deferral policy.’
The event organiser touted its policy as… ‘the best 15 words in triathlon: free race transfers, deferrals and participant transfers as late as the day before the race.’
“20-25% of athletes at each race are choosing to preserve their race entry fees by transferring or deferring to a later race with no reason required and no additional fees,” said Thom Richmond, CEO of Cal Tri Events. “When they are ready to race, we will be there for them.”
He added, “This type of policy aligns the athlete and the race around both financial and safety factors. Third-party insurance schemes have been made redundant and there have been some positive consequences.
“As an example, athletes who are either unprepared or uninterested in racing in inclement weather are not forced to make the choice to preserve their race fees by taking unwanted risks. They are able to transfer to a later date, creating a safer environment for all involved.”
Using the RunSignUp registration platform used by Cal Tri Events, the process is 100% automated and is completed by the athletes themselves.
Cal Tri Events is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with a mission for its events to be ‘safe, affordable & accessible’. It is billed as the largest national short-course triathlon series in the US – with athletes enjoying free race transfers, deferrals & participant transfers as late as the day before the race.
