Cancer Research Wales becomes Principality Cardiff Half charity partner

Cancer Research Wales is joining forces with the Principality Cardiff Half Marathon to help support cancer patients in Wales through fundraising.

The charity, which is lead charity partner of the Principality Cardiff Half’s sister race, the Brecon Carreg Cardiff Bay 10K, will is becoming an associate charity partner for the half marathon in 2024.

Next year’s event will take place on October 6, 2024, and the charity is looking to recruit a 500 strong team of fundraisers for the race. Those interested in running for Cancer Research Wales can sign up to the event for £10 while pledging to raise £300 for the charity.

Matt Newman, Chief Executive of event organiser Run 4 Wales, said “We’re thrilled that Cancer Research Wales will be our associate charity partner at next year’s Principality Cardiff Half Marathon.

“This has further cemented our relationship as we’ve already teamed up with them for our Cardiff Bay 10K, which is a perfect ‘stepping stone’ race for those who are looking to work up to the Cardiff Half. These events are always so popular with runners and spectators, and we hope that together we can raise both funds and awareness of their vital work.”

Dr Lee Campbell, Head of Research at Cancer Research Wales, added “We’re really excited to be teaming up with Run 4 Wales on another staple event in the Welsh capital. As Wales’ only independent cancer research charity, all money raised by our supporters stays in Wales.

“2023 saw a record number of Team CRW runners taking to the streets of Cardiff in support of our work. By engaging with even more runners at next year’s event, we will be able to invest in further lifesaving and life extending research into cancer for Wales and beyond.”

Those who join #TeamCRW will receive a dedicated contact at the charity to support them through their half marathon journey. Fundraisers will also receive a branded Team CRW running top – made from recycled plastic bottles – a fundraising pack, plus training support, race day cheering stations and post-race celebration, and information on the charity’s latest research projects.
