Clear and sunny weather was counterbalanced by strong currents and wind from the south-west to make the 17th edition of ÖTILLÖ, The Swimrun World Championship exceptionally tough.
The 17th edition of the Swimrun World Championship was held on Monday 4 September. ÖTILLÖ (meaning island to island in Swedish) is the original swimrun race, and is renowned as one of the toughest one-day races in the world. The Swimrun World Championship is comprised of 60km trail running and 10km open water swimming (in pairs) in the wild terrain of Sweden’s Stockholm archipelago.
All three pairs of ÖTILLÖ World Champions in 2023 won in course record times:
- The men’s race was won by the pair of Max Andersson (SWE) and Hugo Tormento (FRA) in a time of 07:32:13.
- Adriel Young (AUS) and Amanda Nilsson (SWE) took the mixed race in a time of 7:57:53.
- The women’s race title was claimed by Desirée Andersson (SWE) and Anna Hellström (SWE) in a time of 8:39:13.
The ÖTILLÖ Swimrun World Series consists of qualifier races for ÖTILLÖ, The Swimrun World Championship. Qualifiers included:
- ÖTILLÖ World Series Utö, Sweden
- ÖTILLÖ World Series Engadin, Switzerland
- ÖTILLÖ World Series Gothenburg, Sweden
- ÖTILLÖ World Series Cannes, France
Following the recent acquisition of the Ödyssey Swimrun Series this August, all Ödyssey Swimrun races will become part of the ÖTILLÖ Swimrun World Series in 2024, offering full world series ranking points to qualifiy for ÖTILLÖ, The Swimrun World Championship.
