Event registration specialist njuko has partnered with Train Hugger, which is being positioned as a way for event participants to give back to the countryside of the UK. The Train Hugger concept allows participants travelling to endurance sports events by train to have a tree planted for each journey.
According to Train Hugger… ‘Every time you book a train ticket to an endurance sports event using njuko, we’ll plant a tree, here in the UK, in partnership with The Royal Forestry Society. From oak trees to hawthorn hedges, Train Hugger is restoring the British countryside, one ticket at a time.’
After being one of the first platforms to integrate with the popular Trees not Tees back in 2020 as well as developing a CO2 emissions calculator for the European market, njuko has been focusing on how technology can drive effective eco-friendly local projects in the UK.
The new partnership will allow race directors using njuko to add trackable train booking links into participant dashboard widgets. These log how many participants book train travel for an event. In return, The Royal Forestry Society will plant a tree in the British countryside.
The entrant is made aware of where that tree is planted and there is a financial incentive for the event organiser per train booking made.
An njuko spokesperson said “As a business we loved the idea of how UK-centric the projects Train Hugger (TH) are focusing on.
“Our UK race directors can now easily support their local countryside with the simple method of prompting their participants to booking their train tickets to an event at no extra cost than normal, through the TH platform.
“The kickback earned by us will be reinvested back with Train Hugger to support njuko-driven projects; and race directors that use njuko can choose how to invest their own earnings.”
TH aims to restore the British countryside by making it simple and rewarding for individuals and businesses to book on their platform.
For every booking, TH contributes approximately a quarter of its revenue to restoring the UK’s natural world. Its goals are to restore 250 hectares of wildflower meadows, double UK woodland cover from 13% to 26% and plant 10 million trees in the UK by 2025.
In its first year of operation, Train Hugger is currently recognised as a ‘Pending B Corp’.
