In episode 17 of Red Bull’s Mind Set Win podcast, Norway’s Kristian Blummenfelt reveals how developing and maintaining an open mindset has helped him become a dominating force in the world of triathlon.
In 2021 Blummenfelt became the first triathlete to win Olympic gold and then win the IRONMAN world championship later the same year. In 2022 he also completed a full iron distance triathlon in sub-seven hours, a feat that many believed was impossible.
The theme of the episode hosted by Kate Courtney is… ‘what we can learn from Kristian’s mental flexibility and how he’s able to respond and adjust in the face of both success and failure.’
A release from Red Bull added…
- Kristian reveals how his intense training and preparation is actually the key to his flexibility on race day.
- The 29-year-old also takes us into his mindset when competing against other elite athletes over gruelling swim, bike and run distances.
- Kate introduces us to a powerful mental approach that helps us set flexible goals which allow for more than one outcome.
- Based on setting multiple levels of our goals, in this case categorizing them as gold, silver and bronze, we learn how mental flexibility is a tool that can be applicable in all areas of our lives.
