Starting this year, Oakley will officially partner with RCS Sport, organizer of the Giro d’Italia. It becomes the event’s official eyewear & helmet partner.
Oakley noted that, as one of the three Grand Tours, Giro d’Italia owns a special place in the cycling calendar, and in the hearts of enthusiasts across the globe.
“This partnership aligns the race with one of the most revered brands in cycling,” said Paolo Bellino, Managing Director at RCS Sport.
“Oakley has established itself as a leader in performance eyewear and helmets for cyclists while also building an ecosystem that brings together many of the sport’s biggest stars.”
Corey Hill, Global Sport Marketing SVP at Oakley, said “The Giro d’Italia truly encapsulates both the beauty and pain of the sport that any cyclist can immediately connect to.
“Cycling is part of Oakley’s DNA: this is a proud moment for the entire Oakley team, to show how we celebrate the sport of cycling the Oakley way. We’re wishing in bocca al lupo to all riders and look forward to welcoming fans to Italy for a race unlike any other.”
In May, teams from all over the world will descend upon Italy for a chance to become part of history. Taking place this May, the 2023 Giro d’Italia will total 3,489.2km, featuring a combination of flat roads, time trials and iconic climbs.
Nineteen teams will compete in the 2023 Giro d’Italia, bringing together Olympic medallists, world champions and rising stars in the sport for a celebration of cycling.
Oakley will be represented at this year’s race by three teams: Soudal – Quick-Step Team, Alpecin–Deceuninck and newest roster’s addition, Team Jumbo-Visma. A large contingent of individual riders from Team Oakely will also compete, including Remco Evenepoel and Primoz Roglic among others.
Riders from Team Oakley will highlight the brand’s line of high-performance cycling eyewear, led by its Encoder Strike and Kato sunglasses.
Oakley notes that Encoder features a sport-driven lens shape that offers coverage, style, and additional ventilation for optimal airflow. Kato incorporates an aesthetic enabled by ‘physiomorphic geometry’.
