Starting in 2024 Brazil is one of TRITON’s new destinations. The expanding triathlon race brand adds that two Brazilian destinations are coming: Salvador – Bahia and Rio de Janeiro.
In 2024, the first event of the season will now be TRITON 1 Salvador, Bahia, which will take place on April 14, 2024.
For the second event in Rio, a release from TRITON added… ‘This will bring some major news to the series to be announced very soon. Stay tuned!’
Spread over cliffs on Brazil’s central-eastern coastline, Salvador (officially Salvador de Bahía) is a city with a historic centre and beach suburbs. Founded by the Portuguese in 1549, Salvador was Brazil’s capital for over 200 years. Today, it’s the spiritual home of the country’s Afro-Brazilian culture. At its heart is Pelourinho, a district dominated by 17th and 18th-century churches.
TRITON offers two event formats: a one day traditional triathlon format, and a three-day triathlon format. Taking a similar approach to the Long Course Weekend, the three-day format is not new. TRITON, however, feels that it offers athletes a different way to compete, with a different scoring system
In TRITON’s three-day format (swim on day one, bike on day two and run on day three) all three disciplines have the same weight on the final result. Athletes score points for how they place. The athlete with best score at the end of the three days, wins the competition.
At TRITON 1 (one-day format), participants can register for one of three distances, at every race, individually by age group and gender, as well as in a team and, a Mix&match division where athletes have the option to select the distance they want to do, for each discipline. This allows individuals to compete more on their strongest discipline or less in their less favourite.
