Uplift Live to focus on female representation in the cycling industry

Female leaders in the cycling industry will be brought together with a new generation of talent next month, as a live panel discussion and networking event following the recent launch of the mentoring program, Uplift.

Held on November 2, 2023, and taking place in Shoreditch, London, Uplift Live is just ahead of the Rouleur Live show. The ticketed event will seek to spark a discussion around women’s representation in the cycling industry. It will also explore the opportunities for women at all levels of the bike business to develop their careers.

Joined on stage by four mentors of the programme, SHIFT Active Media’s Business Director and Uplift Founder, Rachael Burnside will host a range of discussion topics. These include: navigating a predominantly male industry, how to support women in cycling and encouraging the next generation to enter.

Confirmed speakers for Uplift Live include:

  • Nikki Hawyes, former Country Leader UK at Cannondale
  • Mei Rider, Chief Marketing Officer at BMC
  • Hollie Weatherstone, Global Head of Marketing at Muc-Off
  • Kirsty Woodcock, Head of Marketing at Specialized UK

Uplift Live will aim to provide a platform for the next generation of women in the cycling industry to gain insights into the personal and professional journeys of female business leaders. Uplift’s ultimate goal is to support and accelerate the progress of women working in cycling, bringing together a network of like-minded individuals passionate about change, and enabling new female talent to thrive and define the sector.

Rachael Burnside, Business Director at SHIFT Active Media, said “The reception to the Uplift launch was incredible, as such I wanted to provide a platform for the wider industry to come together for a panel discussion and networking event.

“Our aim is to foster an ongoing conversation about women’s role in the cycling industry. We’re diving into significant topics such as the key obstacles preventing women from entering and sustaining careers in the cycling world.

“I am looking forward to meeting everyone in real life, and having some meaningful discussions on how we can make the industry more welcoming, retain our talent and ultimately grow the sport.”

Hollie Weatherstone, Global Head of Marketing at Muc-Off said “Having worked in this industry for over a decade, I understand the importance of seeking guidance and inspiration from other women. My journey wouldn’t be the same without this support. I’m absolutely thrilled to see the launch of Uplift, and can’t wait to speak about this in more depth on 2nd November.”

Kirsty Woodcock, Head of Marketing at Specialized UK said “As a member of the Bicycle Association’s Diversity Advisory Board, and now an Uplift mentor, I’m passionate about driving change and modernisation within this industry.

“I’m looking forward to Uplift Live as it promises to be a great space for discussion and networking, and I’m always inspired by the community’s thoughts and actions.”
