The Basque-based Euskadi Foundation and ABUS are starting a three-year collaboration for the teams Euskaltel-Euskadi (men’s UCI Pro Team), Laboral-Kutxa (women’s UCI Continental Team) as well as an amateur team.
ABUS is expanding its commitment to professional cycling and supporting the three teams with its high-performance road helmets, as well as its bike lock products.
The Euskadi Foundation has been involved in various levels of cycling for a number of years and runs both professional teams as well as a U23 team. In addition, the team supports various social projects around the organization’s Basque home base and works with local schools, clubs and charity organizations in the region in northern Spain.
Euskadi has been active in the pro cycling space for several years and has expanded its sphere of influence. The team still feels a strong connection to the Basque Country, and 16 of the 21 riders are Basque, 12 of whom come from the team’s own U23 program.
ABUS will support all team riders with its high-performance helmets – GameChanger 2.0 and AirBreaker, as well as the GameChanger TT time trial helmet. In addition, both the service course and all of the teams’ equipment will be secured by ABUS locks.
“We are delighted to be the helmet and safety partner of the new Euskadi Foundation for both the men’s and women’s teams,” said Maitane Salazar, Marketing Manager Sponsorships at ABUS.
“Our commitment goes beyond pure competitive sport – it is our way of supporting and strengthening Basque cycling, a region that has a special meaning for us. We are honoured to be part of the orange wave and we are excited to see what the next season and years have in store for us.”
Aitor Galdos, President of the Euskadi Foundation and General Manager of the Euskaltel-Euskadi and Laboral Kutxa teams, said “We are delighted to announce that all Euskadi Foundation teams will be using ABUS security for the next three seasons.
“ABUS is a German family business that has become a globally recognized brand through hard work and is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The brand also has a strong connection to the Basque Country, as its Iberian Peninsula headquarters are located in Bizkaia.”
