ENVE has expanded production and availability of its SES AR One-Piece Handlebar that until now has only been available on the ENVE Custom Road bike and through a select number of handmade builder partners.
The US-made SES AR One-Piece handlebar comes in a lightweight, 330g, one-piece bar/stem package.
Featuring an ergonomic shape, aerodynamic profile, and IN-Route System integration, the bar/stem combo is optimized for ENVE’s own frame models, the Custom Road, Melee, and MOG, as well as a variety of custom-built frames featuring ENVE’s IN-Route System internal routing design, such as Mosaic, Argonaut, and Prova.
This is the first of two one-piece handlebars that ENVE will be releasing this year, with the SES Pro Team One-Piece handlebar developed with UAE Team Emirates coming later this year.
As with any product in ENVE’s line using the SES nomenclature, the SES AR One-Piece Handlebar has been developed using CFD (computational fluid dynamics) and tested in a wind tunnel to reduce drag and optimise aerodynamics.
Balancing the aero performance with comfort and handling, the handlebar features compound flared drops that provide a 5 cm wider stance for technical riding and descending while maintaining easy access to controls.
Additional integration comes from a custom K-Edge computer mount that was designed specifically for the SES AR One-Piece handlebar. Each handlebar includes 40 mm of IN-Route spacers, one ‘bypass’ spacer, which allows hoses to be routed externally from the handlebar to the headtube for fitment or rental/demo purposes.
ENVE’s IN-Route System was originally developed for the ENVE Custom Road in collaboration with Chris King Precision Components, with the goal of creating a more user-friendly standard that would deliver a better user experience and interface for hidden routing.
IN-Route works by routing hoses and wires through the handlebar, into the stem, and down into the front of the head tube. This is accomplished by using a fork with a round 1.125” steerer and running the hoses/wires between the steerer and the larger 1.5” upper headset bearing. The top bearing cover and spacers match the shape of ENVE’s IN-Route stem and SES AR One-Piece Handlebar.
“ENVE has built a solid foundation as an aftermarket component manufacturer and the SES AR One-Piece is intended to be applied to more than just ENVE and custom frame models,” said Jake Pantone, ENVE’s VP of Product and Brand.
“The goal of IN-Route wasn’t to reinvent internal routing, it was to refine and streamline it in a way that others would look to it as a possible standard.”
According to ENVE, most bikes using a similar system will likely be compatible with the new SES AR One-Piece with some slight modifications. These systems must route hoses and wires internally through the stem and between the upper bearing and steerer tube. However, ENVE isn’t in a position yet where it can guarantee compatibility of non-ENVE frame fitments.
Pantone added, “Our intent is to make the SES AR One-Piece and all IN-Route components available across as many frame models as possible so riders can continue upgrading to their favourite components without compromise.
“In 2023, while working with the UAE Team Emirates we developed a custom top bearing cover that allows the Colnago V4Rs to seamlessly integrate with IN-Route components. While Colnago is the first frame model to have official compatibility and a matching top-bearing cover, we are currently expanding this concept to ensure ENVE components can be seamlessly integrated with the most popular frame models on the road.”
The SES AR One-Piece Handlebar is available in 20 stock sizes, while stem lengths in 5 mm increments up to 140 mm can be ordered with a lead time. Stock sizes include: 90/38, 100/38, 110/38, 120/38, 90/40, 100/40, 110/40, 120/40, 90/42, 100/42, 110/42, 120/42, 130/42, 90/44, 100/44, 110/44, 120/44, 130/44, 90/46, 100/46.
The handlebar reach is 76 mm, while handlebar drop is 127 mm. The bar weight is 330-360g depending on size, and the product MSRP is US$1200, €1449, £1300.
