The Italian Bike Festival (IBF), an international trade show organised by Movestro with help from APT Servizi Emilia-Romagna, is taking place from September 13-15, 2014 at the Misano World Circuit race track in northeast Italy.
This year’s show features improved rail links, biogas buses, shuttle services with the main nearby towns, and free secure bike parking.
“Bikes will be the star of the show at IBF, being one of the most sustainable, accessible and healthiest forms of transport and recreation,” said Lucrezia Sacchi, Marketing Director of Italian Bike Festival.
“We are an international trade show and we have visitors from all over Europe. While bikes are the quintessential means of transport for the last mile, we also have to think about the other miles.
“We have been working with big players to organise an intermodal travel plan and to combine various eco-friendly means of transport, such as trains, buses, bikes and local public transport. We want to offer a valid alternative to private cars for getting to the event. The goal is to minimise the environmental impact while promoting responsible, conscious mobility.”
The show organising team added that… ‘Intermodal transport is a constantly growing trend in Italy too, because, while also guaranteeing the same efficiency as traditional transport, by incentivising the use of public transport and green vehicles, it helps reduce traffic and pollution in cities and increases road safety.’
During the event, Trenitalia, the Official Green Carrier of IBF, will put on more services to Misano Adriatico, while also opening a special stop at Misano on certain Intercity connections on the Adriatic line.
When entering the festival, visitors can show a Trenitalia Intercity, Intercity Notte or Regionale ticket for Misano, Pesaro, Cattolica or Rimini, and with a travel date up to two days before the day of visiting the Italian Bike Festival. They will then be able to ‘skip the queue’ and use a fast- track lane to enter.
Also, anyone who attends the IBF will be able to enjoy an additional free service from Riccione or Misano Adriatico station, allowing them to travel the last mile on board a Start Romagna biogas shuttle bus.
“There are many Trenitalia initiatives that result in greater integration between trains and bikes”, said Maria Annunziata Giaconia, the Trenitalia Intermodal Development and Regional Business Director.
“For example, Trenitalia’s Regionale service also decided to support intermodal transport by investing in trains in order to offer more space for bikes on its convoys. About 27,000 bike spaces are available every day on Regionale and Intercity services. This number will also increase thanks to a renewed fleet.”
Lara Silvestri, Shimano Italia Marketing Manager, added “Shimano Italia, a partner of IBF – Italian Bike Festival 2024, has set up a large temporary and guarded bike park that will welcome enthusiasts expected from all over Italy.
“The Shimano Bike Parking will be able to accommodate about 300 bikes in the space normally used for 50 cars.
