Gran Fondo World Tour adds Pedal Imua charity ride to its calendar

The West Maui Loop, widely regarded as a bucket list ride on the island of Maui in Hawaii, is taking centre stage with the annual Pedal Imua, a special charity ride on the Gran Fondo World Tour (GFWT) schedule.

Since 2022, the event location has closed the year-round GFWT series, blending cycling with community impact.

The GFWT team is now focusing on the event as offering ‘a ride with purpose’, with Pedal Imua acting as a community-supported fundraiser dedicated to aiding children in crisis and recognising the connection to Hawai’i’s ‘āina (land).

Proceeds from the Pedal Imua charity ride benefit Dream Imua, a wish-granting program for children in Maui County facing crises due to abuse or trauma.

Participants will tackle the West Maui Mountain Loop, a 100km journey through mountains and coastlines on the island of Maui. For those seeking a shorter challenge, a half-distance option covers 50km. Both courses offer notable elevation gains of up to 4,173 feet, beginning and ending at sea level.

Riders will have access to hydration and rest stops, food zones, bike maintenance support, and a tail-end vehicle to ensure safety. Post-ride, participants will be treated to a complimentary brunch.

Dani Buyo, CEO & Founder at Gran Fondo World Tour said “Pedal Imua has been a partner of the Gran Fondo World Tour Series since 2022.

“We are thrilled to have the charity event enable more participants to cycle around the island and raise funds for a good cause. It is one of the most amazing rides that every gran fondo fan should complete at least once to experience the beauty and feel the welcoming spirit of the island.”
