British Triathlon has announced two new appointments to its Board, noting that the move will strengthen its leadership and ensure athlete voices are included in decision-making.
Robert Smith joins as Independent Non-Executive Director for Finance. He brings extensive experience in financial governance, strategy, and technological transformation, having served as Chief Financial Officer, Chief Information Officer, and Company Secretary for an AIM-listed company, alongside 14 years as a senior consulting partner with Price Waterhouse Cooper.
Robert Smith will also Chair British Triathlon’s Audit, Risk and Governance Committee.
Robert Smith said “I’m very excited to be joining British Triathlon’s Board at such a crucial time for the organisation, as it continues to rapidly evolve its strategy, its long-term outlook and ensure its financial sustainability. I’m looking forward to bringing my experience to help the organisation build on these strong foundations.”
Elite athlete Harry Leleu has been appointed as Non-Executive Director to represent the voices of British triathletes. Harry Leleu has competed for Great Britain in triathlon for over 10 years, recently placing fourth in this year’s European Championships in Istanbul and 14th in the World Triathlon Grand Finals in Wollongong in October.
Harry Leleu said “I’m very proud to take on this role and to represent the British triathlete community at Board level. To be able to ensure our athletes voices are heard is a really important element as we build into the next Olympic Games and I’m looking forward to taking up this incredible opportunity.”
British Triathlon is also currently recruiting an athlete representative for its paratriathletes.
Debbie Clarke, Chair of British Triathlon, welcomed the appointments, saying “I’m delighted Robert and Harry are joining us on the Board.
“Robert’s financial acumen and strategic insight will be invaluable as we continue to build a sustainable future for the sport, while Harry’s perspective as an elite athlete ensures our decisions remain grounded in the needs of those at the heart of triathlon.”
She added “We’re looking forward to welcoming them both to their new roles and continuing our journey to ensure triathlon remains successful at the elite level and as an accessible sport for everyone.”
