Cirql, a supplier of sustainable materials for the global footwear industry, has expanded its award-winning ‘Zero’ collection with the introduction of Cirql Zero36 midsole foam.

This new material is presented as a lower-impact alternative to traditional EVA midsole foams for brands aiming to lower their environmental impact.

Cirql Zero36 midsole foam is manufactured with 36% bio-based content. The foam is designed to be fully biodegradable through industrial composting at the end of its useful life. Production uses a patented, chemical-free foaming process that can be deployed by any tier 1 facility equipped with autoclave foaming technology.

The foam is described as a high-energy, comfort-forward material with a low density and uniform microcellular composition, making it resilient and durable. It is specifically suited to replace EVA in midsole applications.

Matt Thwaites, Vice President and General Manager of Cirql, said “We recognise that our brand partners need options that satisfy many requirements: performance, comfort, regulatory needs, scalability, climate goals and supply chain transparency, among others.”

He added “Our aim at Cirql is to create products that make it easy for footwear brands to meet those needs, while simultaneously building a lower impact industry and a more circular future for all footwear.”

Cirql Zero36 is third-party tested and is available as a finished component or polymer. It is the latest innovation in the company’s Zero category, which launched in December 2024 and won the ISPO BrandNew Award for Sustainability. The brand’s product lineup focuses on materials that are either fully recyclable or biodegradable via industrial composting.
