International governing body World Triathlon has selected Hamburg, Germany, to host the 2027 World Triathlon Championship Finals.
The event is scheduled to take place in September 2027, and will crown world champions across the Elite, Para, U23, Junior and Age Group sprint and standard distance triathlon and aquabike categories, as well as Triathlon Mixed Relay for Junior/U23, Para triathlon and Age-Group.
The Championship Finals will kick off with the Parade of Nations to mark the start of five days of competition. A detailed schedule of events will be announced at a later date.
Approximately 4,500 athletes from around the world are expected to participate. Hamburg will join destinations such as Wollongong, Pontevedra, Abu Dhabi, Edmonton, Lausanne and Gold Coast, as hosts of World Triathlon’s most important event.
World Triathlon noted that Hamburg has a long history with triathlon, solidifying its status as a key location for the sport. In 2002, the city marked the debut of the largest triathlon in Germany with over 2,000 participants in the Hamburg City Man. The city then hosted the first Triathlon World Championships in Germany in 2007, welcoming athletes from 72 nations and attracting over 600,000 live spectators.
In 2013, Hamburg hosted the Mixed Relay World Championship for the first time, which saw a German home victory alongside over 9,000 age-group athletes competing. In 2020, Hamburg stepped up to host the only World Triathlon Series event conducted worldwide under COVID restrictions, which acted as a one-off World Triathlon Championship event. In 2023, the city showcased its organizational prowess again by hosting the Sprint and Relay World Championships.
World Triathlon added that the city’s commitment to the sport and its world-class event infrastructure make it an ideal location for the Championship Finals.

They have successfully hosted multiple Mixed Relay World Championships, as well as the 2023 Sprint & Relay World Championships. Hamburg is also a favorite event for athletes, both elite and age groupers, so having such a reliable partner is a win for everyone involved.”
