The 2025 edition of the Generali Genève Marathon attracted a record 25,428 participants across various race formats, including 5,512 marathon runners, cementing its position as the largest marathon event in Switzerland.
Held under clear skies on May 10-11, the event saw all six race formats sell out weeks in advance, with 10,000 people left on a waiting list.
According to the organisers, the marathon’s growing popularity is being driven by younger runners and greater diversity – with 45% women and 45% first-time participants taking part this year.
Course records were broken in the women’s 5km by Always and the 10km races, while the marathon titles went to Collins Kemboi in 2:11:37 and Tsega Desta in 2:37:41. The Swiss Marathon Championships, held as part of the weekend’s programme, saw Patrik Wägeli win in 2:16:57 and Fabienne Vonlanthen in 2:39:13.
The route took participants from Cologny, along the shores of Lake Geneva and through the countryside, finishing in the city centre. Organisers said crowds lined the course and created a vibrant atmosphere throughout the weekend.
This year’s event also raised CHF 18,000 (US$21,500) in donations for The Human Safety Net Switzerland, which will support the Camarada association and its Femmes-Tische programme, aimed at helping migrant women and families integrate through health and family dialogue groups.
