With its new BICARB GEL 40 Lemon 1:0.8, MNSTRY, based out of Stuttgart, Germany, has introduced what is being billed as ‘the world’s first high-performance gel with bicarbonate’.
According to the company, the new gel enables effective bicarbonate absorption during exercise without any stomach discomfort. MNSTRY’s encapsulation technology helps to deliver bicarbonate directly to the small intestine. At the same time, the gel delivers 40g of carbohydrates in an optimized 1:0.8 glucose-to-fructose ratio – designed for maximal carbohydrate absorption and sustained energy at high intensity levels.
As a natural acid buffer, bicarbonate helps to stabilize blood pH levels and enhances physical output.
MNSTRY adds that during intense physical activity, hydrogen ions (H+) accumulate as a byproduct of energy production, impairing muscle performance. Bicarbonate helps to raise blood buffer capacity by neutralizing hydrogen ions (H+), allowing athletes to push over a longer period of time.
Until now, bicarbonate intake has typically been limited to pre-loading before races, which may be impractical for long events due to a time-limited window (3-4 hours) of effectiveness.
With BICARB GEL 40 Lemon 1:0.8, athletes can absorb bicarbonate on the fly when required – for example before a critical race phase.

Each gel contains 5g of sodium and potassium bicarbonate, which MNSTRY claims is an ideal amount for strategic re-loading during long races or high-intensity sessions. Since the rise in blood bicarbonate levels can vary from person to person, athletes should tailor use accordingly.
Combined with 40g of fast-absorbing carbohydrates in a 1:0.8 ratio, the gel ensures consistent energy delivery and supports muscular endurance throughout a session.
