Realbuzz, a provider of charity running programmes, has announced its official sponsorship of fitness coach and endurance athlete Esmée Gummer for her nationwide movement initiative, The Nation’s 5K Challenge.
The UK-based challenge, which runs from June 27 – October 3, 2026, aims to get one million people in the UK to complete a 5km distance, whether running, jogging, or walking. The goal is to inspire movement, community connection, and greater accessibility to physical activity.
Esmée Gummer’s journey is a story of resilience; at 18 she was paralysed following a medical procedure and told she would never walk again. She not only taught herself to walk but has since completed more than 50 endurance events and served as a Realbuzz ambassador for the past two years.
As part of the initiative, Gummer will run to every city in the UK and host a city-wide 5km event in each location.
Throughout this month, Gummer and Realbuzz are inviting charities and participants across the UK to apply or vote for the official charity partner for the challenge, which will be announced in January 2026.
Realbuzz, which is managing the charity partnership and participant registration, is providing an option to donate upon sign-up. GoFundMe will power the fundraising element.
John Coventry, Senior Vice President at GoFundMe, said “GoFundMe is delighted to be the official fundraising partner for The Nation’s 5K challenge. Together, we can turn individual effort into meaningful impact.”
Nina Sethi, Head of Brand and Marketing at Realbuzz, said “We’re incredibly proud to be sponsoring Esmée for The Nation’s 5K challenge. Her ambition to get one million people moving aligns perfectly with our mission to make running accessible for all.”
Sethi added that by powering the registration and charity infrastructure, Realbuzz is enabling communities across the UK to come together, get active, and support a cause that will have national impact.
Esmée Gummer said “The Nation’s 5K challenge is about getting people moving together. Running transformed my life and this challenge is about making movement accessible, supportive and fun for everyone.
“I’m thrilled to have Realbuzz sponsoring the project, their platform will bring this vision to life at a national scale. Now we’re searching for the perfect charity to champion throughout the challenge.”
New UK research commissioned by Realbuzz indicates the power of group movement, with over half of respondents (57%) stating that group running boosts their drive. Other benefits cited include making runs more enjoyable (49%), helping people feel safer (51%), encouraging persistence due to shared support (47%), and strengthening social connection (40%).
Charities and participants can register their interest to apply or vote to become the official non-profit partner. Applications are open from December 8, 2025 to January 9, 2026.
