Selle Italia unveils fourth-generation SLR saddle ahead of Maratona dles Dolomites

Selle Italia is launching a new range of SLR saddles to coincide with this year’s Maratona dles Dolomites gran fondo (held on July 6, 2025), introducing the fourth generation of the Italian brand’s long-running performance saddle.

Originally launched in 1999, the SLR quickly built a following among professional riders for its minimalist design and ultra-lightweight construction. The updated 2025 version retains the classic SLR shape but introduces refinements aimed at improving efficiency, comfort and weight.

Giuseppe Bigolin, President of Selle Italia, described the update as “an evolution, not a revolution”.

All new models retain the SLR’s neutral profile and biomechanical fit, but feature a shorter length – now 242mm – which is 6mm shorter than the previous version and close to the UCI’s legal limit. The padding has also been redesigned to be more compact at the rear, following findings from Selle Italia’s idmatch Pressure Map analysis.

The BRP (Biomechanical Reference Point) and sitting point remain unchanged to preserve the familiar SLR ride feel.

The new saddles are lighter across the board, thanks to a revised frame design and updated carbon layups. Carbon versions now absorb more vibration, and the increased stack between the BRP and rail front insertion point offers improved adjustment.

Three versions are available at launch, with more expected in September:

SLR 3D Carbon
At just 137g (S3 size), this model is claimed to be the lightest 3D-printed saddle on the market. It features a carbon frame and uses Carbon DLS technology for zonal cushioning. It is 29g lighter than the previous SLR Boost 3D Kit Carbonio.

SLR 3D Elite
Featuring a tubular steel frame and Carbon DLS cover, this saddle weighs 172g (S3 size) and 178g (L3 size). It is 28g lighter than the earlier SLR Boost 3D TI316.

SLR Carbon
This model includes hand-covered padding and is available with or without a central cut-out. It weighs 118g in S3 size, making it 4g lighter than its predecessor.

All models feature a blacked-out aesthetic with grey detailing to align with modern road bike styling.
