SportsShoes.com releases The Hidden Race – a new film about ultra marathon crewing

SportsShoes.com has unveiled its first documentary film, The Hidden Race, which takes a look at an often unseen side of ultra-running – the crew behind the runners.

In partnership with HOKA, the film follows runner Darren Agnew and his chief crewer and partner Hannah Cawthra to highlight the emotional, logistical and physical work that goes into ultra-marathon crewing.

Captured over 40 hours of filming during the ultra-marathon UTMB TDS (Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc, Sur les Traces des Ducs de Savoie) in Chamonix this August, the documentary captures the parallel journeys of Darren and Hannah through one of the toughest mountain races in the world.

Unlike traditional race films that focus solely on the athlete’s effort, The Hidden Race aims to shine a spotlight on the people working in the background, navigating aid stations, adapting to unexpected weather, managing exhaustion, and keeping spirits alive when the kilometres begin to take their toll.

Following a premiere during Kendal Mountain Festival on November 22, 2025, the documentary is now available to watch on YouTube.
