Strava, which reports over 150 million users across more than 185 countries, has launched new updates aimed at helping subscribers ‘explore and compete with more confidence over the summer months.’
The new features focus on smarter route planning and fairer competition, blending machine learning and community-driven data across the platform.
Smarter routing with community data
A revamped Routes experience uses Strava’s Global Heatmap and AI to offer more intuitive route suggestions. The aim is to help runners, riders and walkers navigate like locals.
Users can now generate routes from their current location or any custom starting point via the Maps tab.
Tappable Points of Interest – available in June – will allow users to select locations such as cafés, restrooms and viewpoints to view more details and generate suggested routes. These POIs will include elevation, distance and estimated time to arrival, alongside community photos.
In July, Strava will also roll out Point-to-Point Routing, enabling users to generate more efficient, activity-specific routes between two locations by simply dropping pins in the mobile app.

Enhancing fairness in competition
Strava is also expanding Live Segments by doubling the number of popular segments supported in real time. Subscribers will gain access to additional metrics and comparison screens to track their performance on the go.
To reinforce leaderboard accuracy, Strava adds that it is continuing to develop its machine learning model – originally launched in February – to reprocess top segment results.
To date, 4.45 million activities with incorrect sport types or those recorded in vehicles have been removed, with efforts ongoing to ensure KOM and QOM records reflect verified efforts.
