Building on a recent expansion in Chile, IRONMAN and Chilean event organiser World Centric Group have announced that Valdivia will become the first city in Chile to host a full-distance IRONMAN triathlon.
The inaugural IRONMAN Valdivia triathlon will make its debut on November 29, 2026, coinciding with the IRONMAN 70.3 Valdivia triathlon, bringing the long-distance endurance event to the southern region of Chile for the first time. General registration for the new event will open in the coming months.
Set against the scenery of Valdivia’s rivers, forests, and city streets, the new IRONMAN Valdivia triathlon will feature a 140.6-mile (226.2 km) course through some of the most unique locations in southern Chile.
“Valdivia has proven itself to be a truly compelling destination and following the success of the IRONMAN 70.3 Valdivia event, we know that this vibrant community is the perfect location to host Chile’s first full-distance IRONMAN,” said Joanna Jordan, Vice President – Managing Director of Latin America for The IRONMAN Group.
“The exceptional reception the IRONMAN 70.3 event received reinforces our belief that
Valdivia will be a superb location to host a full-distance race and while showcasing what this region of Chile has to offer to a global audience.”
Fernanda Castro, Race Director of IRONMAN Valdivia and World Centric Group, which owns and operates the new event, said “We are thrilled to introduce the IRONMAN Valdivia race to athletes from around the world.
“This marks a historic moment for our country. Chile has been hosting IRONMAN events since 2016, but this is the first time we will have a full-distance IRONMAN race. What makes it even more special is that it will take place on the same day and location as the IRONMAN 70.3 Valdivia triathlon, creating a truly iconic race weekend.
“Valdivia offers not only incredible natural beauty but also a fast and competitive course – an ideal setting for athletes to push their limits and aim for personal bests.”
At the 2026 IRONMAN Valdivia triathlon athletes will begin their race with a 3.8 km (2.4-mile) swim in the calm waters of the Calle-Calle River, offering views of Valdivia’s bridges and the surrounding greenery.
Once out of the water, athletes will take on a 180.2 km (112-mile) bike course through the Chilean countryside. The two-loop course will pass by rivers, forests, and mountain views. The course is designed to offer both flat stretches and some challenging hills, while also showcasing the region.
After transitioning to the run, athletes will complete a 42.2 km (26.2-mile) run along the riverbanks and through the heart of historic Valdivia. The flat and fast run course features a mix of urban streets between Av España, and Valdivia’s Costanera, culminating in a finish line experience.
Valdivia, located in the Chilean Lake District, is known for its German heritage, rivers, and landscapes. Participating athletes will have the chance to immerse themselves in the region’s rich cultural history and scenery.
Spectators will be treated to views of the course, as the run and bike routes pass through the city’s key landmarks, including the Valdivia River and the historical sites of the city.
The 2026 IRONMAN Valdivia triathlon will offer age group qualifying slots for the 2027 IRONMAN World Championship race in Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i.
