60 pro athletes lining up for sold out Anfi Challenge Mogán Gran Canaria 10th anniversary edition

Anfi Challenge Mogán Gran Canaria triathletes

The Anfi Challenge Mogán Gran Canaria early season triathlon in Spain has reached capacity for the first time in its history. The event, which takes place on April 18, 2026, sold out more than a month in advance of its 10th-anniversary edition.

The race is the only international triathlon of its category held in Gran Canaria and is part of the international Challenge Family event network. It is organised with support from Mogán Town Council, the Gran Canaria Island Council – through Gran Canaria Tourism and the Island Sports Institute – and the Canary Islands Government.

More than 60 professional triathletes from three continents have confirmed their participation for the event at Anfi del Mar. The wider field includes athletes from 27 countries who will compete across half-distance, short-distance, and relay categories.

In the men’s professional field, James Teagle (GBR) is highlighted as a leading contender. Teagle, a winner of IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire, enters the race in peak form. He is joined by Maximilian Sperl (GER), a previous winner of Challenge San Remo and a multiple IRONMAN podium finisher.

The men’s elite line-up also features:

  • Simon Huckestein (GER), a six-time national champion ranked world number five
  • Michele Bortolamedi (ITA), the Italian national number two
  • Alexandre Nobre (POR), a top-five athlete in Portugal
  • Matthew Kaminer (RSA), a top-three finisher from South Africa
  • Erwan Jacobi (FRA) and Sam Wordley (GBR), both of whom are expected to contend for the title

The women’s professional category includes German triathlete Caroline Pohle, who is ranked national number two and holds two major IRONMAN victories. She will compete against Luisa Iogna, the Italian national number two and six-time national champion.

The elite women’s field also includes María Varo, Megan McDonald, and Anne-Sophie Pierre, who was the runner-up in the previous edition of the Anfi Challenge Mogán Gran Canaria.

The event is supported by the Anfi Group, Anfi Sports Academy, and the Canary Islands Triathlon Federation. The course is noted for its routes between the sea and mountains, benefiting from the typically stable climate of the Mogán area in April.

According to the event organising team, the 10th-anniversary race on April 18, 2026, marks the event’s establishment as a key fixture on the international triathlon calendar, providing a season-opening opportunity for European-based professionals.
