The Anfi Challenge Mogán Gran Canaria international triathlon has sold out for the first time in its history, more than a month before the race takes place on April 18, 2026. Organised by Challenge Family, the event at Anfi del Mar serves as the opening fixture for Challenge Family’s European triathlon season.
Due to high demand, the organiser has activated a waiting list. The event is set to break participation records, with more than 70% of the field travelling from outside Spain. While around 30% of participants are domestic athletes, the most frequent international nationalities represented are Great Britain, Germany, Italy, and France.
Additional competitors are confirmed from South Africa, the United States, Poland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, Portugal, and Switzerland. According to the event organising team, the race consistently features one of the highest numbers of professional athletes on the starting list within the Challenge Family world circuit.
Located in the south of Gran Canaria, Mogán is known as a destination for winter and spring training. The municipality offers an average temperature of 22°C, calm coastal waters, and a network of roads suitable for cycling.
The event features two primary distances. The short-distance challenge includes a 1.5km swim, a 40km bike ride, and a 10km run. The main middle-distance event consists of a 1.9km swim, 90km bike, and 21km run. Both races start and finish at the Anfi del Mar beach.
Over the years, the race has hosted several high-profile athletes, including IRONMAN World Champions Patrick Lange, Sam Laidlow, Anne Haug, Jan Frodeno, and Olympic gold medallist Alistair Brownlee. Other notable participants have included Emma Pallant-Browne, Nicola Spirig, and Lisa Norden.
The event is supported by the Mogán Town Council and the Gran Canaria Island Council, alongside the Anfi Group and the Canary Islands Triathlon Federation (Fecantri). Challenge Family adds that local triathletes and international professionals have already begun arriving in the region to acclimatise and train on the course ahead of the April start date.
