DATEV Challenge Roth in southern Germany has reported a record-breaking media reach for the 2025 season, with ‘the world’s largest long distance triathlon’ reaching a total of approximately 374 million people across all media channels. This represents a 9% increase on the previous year.
In 2025, the event was shown live, as a repeat, or through highlights on 285 channels and portals. A total of 6,974 editorial articles were recorded, with Germany remaining the most significant market. According to an evaluation on behalf of the event organiser, the media value of the event amounted to approximately €38 million.
Public television played a central role in the coverage. Bayerischer Rundfunk provided extensive live reporting, while the race was also broadcast live for a full hour on Das Erste (ARD). A notable milestone for the event was a 40–second report at 20:00 German national news on race day.
Internationally, the race was broadcast worldwide via streaming and TV services such as WOF Fast Channel, Sportdigital EDGE, and DAZN. High-reach platforms including msn.com and kicker.de provided online coverage, while international stations such as CCTV in China also reported on the event. In total, more than 1,700 hours of airtime were recorded in the TV and streaming sector.
Social media performance also saw significant growth. A total of 3,597 posts were recorded across platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, X, and TikTok. These achieved a reach of around 158 million contacts and more than 2.1 million engagements, which is 35% more than in 2024.
Heiko Wörrlein, Media Manager at DATEV Challenge Roth, said “These figures impressively demonstrate the appeal that DATEV Challenge Roth has now developed both nationally and internationally. We would like to express our special thanks to all our media partners, platforms and the many people behind the scenes who made this result possible.”
The event has seen consistent growth in recent years. In 2024, the total cross-media reach was 342 million, up from 324 million in the 2023 season. According to the event organising team, this continuous development underlines the growing international importance of the race for the district of Roth and the wider endurance sports sector.
The data was collected and evaluated by the US-based market and media research institute Intelligent Research in Sponsoring (IRIS). The institute specialises in the sports sector, with a client list that includes Audi, Tissot, and various professional football clubs.
