Event organiser Focal Events has announced a new 280km Epic format for the Dirty Reiver gravel cycling event on April 23–25, 2027. The new option will feature alongside the existing 65km, 130km and 200km routes in Kielder Forest, in Northumberland, North East England.
The UK-based organiser, which provides a range of cycling events, has designed the Dirty Reiver Epic presented by GRAVELKING for teams of two. Riders will set off before dawn on an exclusive opening loop through the gravel roads of Northern England and Southern Scotland, supported by a remote feed station, before joining the main Dirty Reiver 200 route.
Unlike standalone ultra-distance events, the route has been created so participants finish in the main event village alongside riders completing the shorter distances.
Bryan Singleton, Co-director at Focal Events said “Going long is something we’ve considered for a few years, to give our riders a new and bigger challenge to aim for at Dirty Reiver. However, it was important to us that we created a format and route that allowed our riders to take on a new distance without losing the feeling and emotion that the event is so well known for. The Epic achieves that and we’re excited to bring it to life next April.”
The Dirty Reiver Epic will be limited to 100 team entries in its first year. Entries for the Epic route opened on August 21, 2026, while entries for the 65km, 130km and 200km routes will open at 08:00 BST on September 1, 2026.
