Gretel Planner and MMTF partner to enhance trail running in Southeast Asia

Gretel Planner x MMTF partner in Southeast Asia

Gretel Planner has announced a new partnership with the Malaysia Mountain Trail Festival (MMTF) to introduce its race planning technology to the Southeast Asian market. The collaboration aims to provide trail running organisers and athletes with digital tools for course visualisation and performance management.

Based in Valencia, Spain, Gretel Planner is a technology platform that utilises GPX data to help runners analyse elevation and plan pacing strategies. The software allows athletes to determine nutrition schedules and visualise course difficulty before and during an event.

MMTF is a Perak-based sports event consultancy founded in 2018. It specialises in international-standard trail races, most notably the Malaysia Mountain Trail Festival held in Taiping. The event is a certified member of the International Trail Running Association (ITRA) and has previously served as the Asia Trail Master championship finale.

For event organisers, the new partnership in Southeast Asia is intended to offer greater course visibility and a platform to showcase the technical uniqueness of races. According to Gretel Planner, this can help elevate the reputation of events and provide a more innovative experience for participants.

Jorge Vilanova, CEO at Gretel Planner, said “Following the strong traction we have seen in Southeast Asia, we have decided to take a step further and fully commit to delivering our technology in a more impactful way.”

He added “Through this agreement, we aim to get closer to the region and support organisers who are truly focused on improving their events and the experience of their participants.”

For runners, the integration of Gretel Planner technology provides tools for strategic pacing and in-race nutrition management. The platform aims to increase athlete confidence by providing a clear visualisation of terrain difficulty and potential challenges.

MMTF has established itself as a key player in the Southeast Asian trail scene, with its flagship festival taking runners through the trails of Maxwell Hill and the Taiping Lake Gardens. The addition of planning technology is seen as a step toward modernising race preparation in the region.
