Strava rolls out annual best efforts and expands global language support

Strava has announced a series of platform updates for the 2026 season, introducing annual performance tracking as well as expanding its reach to more international markets. The updates, part of the latest ‘What’s New on Strava’ release, focus on localised experiences and more relevant personal performance data.

Based in San Francisco, CA, Strava is a subscription-based platform for athletes with over 195 million users globally. It has been expanding its tools for tracking, analysing, and sharing various sport types, such as cycling and running through to hiking and strength training.

A key feature in the latest update is Annual Best Efforts. This allows users to track their fastest times specifically by calendar year rather than solely against all-time personal records. According to the company, this ensures athletes are measuring themselves against their current fitness levels. Subscribers can further compare these annual efforts across multiple years to identify long-term trends.

The platform has also increased its language support by adding ten new languages: Thai, Turkish, Tagalog, Polish, Vietnamese, Malay, Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, and Czech. This brings the total number of supported languages on the platform to 24.

Louisa Wee, Chief Marketing Officer at Strava, said “With the addition of these new languages, Strava is more international than ever before, enabling users to unlock the full Strava experience in their native language.”

She added “The expansion is a key part of our broader global growth strategy, which includes regional partnerships, localised content libraries, and market-specific challenges.”

For community organisers, Strava has introduced Event Browse within the Groups tab. This tool allows users to discover local club events by filtering for sport type, location, date, and distance. Additionally, club organisers in the UK and USA can now include event waivers to manage liability for group activities.

On the web interface, Strava has expanded its activity tagging system. Here, users can now apply and filter tags such as Race, Long Run, Commute, Workout, and ‘With Pet’. This is intended to give athletes a more focused view of specific training blocks within their historical data.

The update also includes new Weekly Streak Stickers in the Progress tab. These allow users to select from four designs to share their consistency milestones with their community.
