Frankfurt is set to host some of the world’s leading triathletes for the 24th edition of the IRONMAN Frankfurt European Championship, taking place on June 29, 2026.
The professional start list features two IRONMAN World Champions, the 2024 IRONMAN Pro Series winner, several Olympians, and multiple IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 Champions. According to the company, fans of the sport can expect a race for the history books.
The event serves as the ninth stop on the Experience Oman IRONMAN Pro Series tour. Professional athletes will be competing for a total prize purse of US$87,500 and six qualifying slots for the 2026 IRONMAN World Championship triathlon in Kona, Hawai`i. Approximately 3,000 age group athletes will join the professional field, each seeking their own qualifying spots for the world championship event.
The race will be broadcast live and free for international audiences via several platforms, such as IRONMAN YouTube, ironman.com/proseries, and DAZN. Additional regional live coverage and highlight programmes will be available on L’Équipe Live in France, ESPN (within Disney+), SuperSport, hr-Fernsehen, RTVE, iQIYI, and Outside TV.
Reigning IRONMAN World Champion, Casper Stornes, will wear bib number one. The Norwegian athlete has had a successful 2026 season so far, securing two third–place finishes at the Athletic Brewing IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside and the Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Texas North American Championship. Stornes finished third in Frankfurt last year and will likely look to assert his status at the top of the sport.
Fellow Norwegian Gustav Iden, a former IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 World Champion, is also confirmed for the start line. Iden was the runner up to Stornes at the last IRONMAN World Championship and will be chasing a podium place after finishing fourth in the 2025 Frankfurt edition.
Magnus Ditlev is scheduled to make his season debut in Frankfurt, following a period of injury and illness. The Danish athlete has a strong championship pedigree, having finished on the podium at the IRONMAN World Championship in 2023 and 2024. As the 2025 IRONMAN African Champion, Ditlev remains a significant threat, particularly as he has not yet secured his qualification for Kona for the 2026 season.
Also seeking a Kona slot is the 2024 Experience Oman IRONMAN Pro Series champion, Gregory Barnaby. The Italian athlete has previous success on the Frankfurt course, having finished third in 2024.
South African athlete Jamie Riddle is expected to be a prominent figure in the early stages of the swim and bike. Riddle is seeking a strong result following difficult races at the ISUZU IRONMAN South Africa African Championship and IRONMAN 70.3 Aix–en–Provence triathlons earlier this year.
Kieran Lindars will represent Great Britain. Lindars finished second in Frankfurt in 2024 but suffered a DNF in the 2025 race. He has already secured his 2026 Kona slot following an eighth–place finish at the IRONMAN Texas North American Championship.
Vincent Luis is another high–profile entrant following a fourth–place finish during his IRONMAN debut in Texas. The French athlete faced a high–calibre field in that event and is considered a top contender for the European Championship title.
The home nation will be represented by a strong contingent of German athletes. Jonas Hoffman returns after a fifth–place finish last year. He is joined by Finn Große-Freese, Wilhelm Hirsch, Jan Stratmann, Florian Angert, and Paul Schuster, all of whom will be looking to make an impact on home soil.
