Canyon launches third-generation Grail gravel race bike

Canyon has officially launched the third generation of its flagship gravel race platform, the Grail. The Germany-based bike firm notes that its latest offering is engineered to unlock pure all-terrain speed.

The updated bike incorporates aerodynamic refinements, increased tyre clearance, updated frame geometry, and integrated component ecosystems.

The development of the new platform was driven directly by feedback from top-level athletes, including Rosa Klöser, who rode the Grail CFR to a debut victory at The Traka 360 event prior to launch.

Key technical developments
The Gen. 3 Grail introduces several major design updates engineered for modern gravel racing environments:

  • 57mm tyre clearance: Frame and fork clearance has been expanded to accommodate up to 57mm (2.25-inch) tyres, with over 4mm of frame clearance remaining for mud shed.
  • All-terrain aerodynamics: Developed through extensive wind tunnel testing, Canyon claims that the chassis outperformed key competitor bikes at real-world race speeds of 35 km/h.
  • Revised geometry: A longer wheelbase, 71.5° head tube angle, and 69mm trail value across core sizes help to provide stability over rough surfaces. The stack height has been lowered by 15mm compared to its predecessor to enable a more aggressive riding position.
  • PACE technology: CFR and CF SLX models feature Canyon’s PACE cockpit technology, allowing riders to adjust handlebar height and width using a single Torx 25 tool. The ecosystem introduces Control Drops with refined flare for enhanced handling precision.
  • Integrated storage: Frame storage is expanded via the updated LOAD Down Tube Storage system on CFR and CF SLX tier frames.
  • Canyon x Cyclite luggage: Canyon has partnered with bikepacking brand Cyclite to manufacture custom, ultralight midloader and top-tube packs. The midloader features a push-to-release mechanism for rapid attachment and removal.
  • Wheelset integration: The platform introduces the Canyon GR 50 CF carbon wheelset, engineered specifically to complement the bike’s aerodynamic profile and handling.
  • Adaptability features: CF SLX and CF models are compatible with DEFEND Fast Fenders for poor-weather training. All models include the Gear Groove cockpit interface to mount computers, lights, and adjustable aero extensions for ultra-endurance events.

Frame platforms and specifications
The Grail lineup is structured across three distinct carbon frame tiers – CFR, CF SLX, and CF – across a seven-size range spanning 2XS to 2XL:

Grail CFR
Targeted at elite competition, the CFR range features high-modulus carbon construction and premium specification details. Options include:

  • Grail CFR AXS: Equipped with SRAM RED XPLR AXS groupset and DT Swiss GRC 1100 carbon wheels.
Grail CFR Di2: Fitted with Shimano GRX Di2 800 series groupset and DT Swiss GRC 1100 carbon wheels.

European customers can also access the new MyCanyon customisation programme for the CFR tier. This allows riders to select custom artworks, choose alternative wheelsets (including Zipp 303 XPLR SW and Scope Artech 4G), specify stem lengths and handlebar flare, and select custom crank lengths, chainring sizes, and saddles.

Grail CF SLX
Designed as a high-performance option for privateer racers:

  • Grail CF SLX 8 AXS: Features a full SRAM Force XPLR AXS groupset paired with DT Swiss GRC 1400 wheels.
  • Grail CF SLX 7 Di2: Built with Shimano GRX Di2 700 series components and Canyon GR 50 CF carbon wheels.

Grail CF
Serves as the entry point into Canyon’s newest gravel racing platform:

  • Grail CF 7 AXS / Speed: Features SRAM Rival XPLR AXS electronic shifting and Canyon GR 50 CF carbon wheels.
  • Grail CF 7: Features a mechanical Shimano GRX 600 series groupset and carbon Newmen Advanced G.34 wheels.
