Palena launches in Kona to give endurance race stories a home

Palena, a digital platform built for endurance athletes to write, preserve, discover, and share race reports, has launched in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. The launch coincides with the IRONMAN World Championship week ahead of the event on October 10, 2026.

Derived from the Hawaiian word for boundary or limit, Palena provides a dedicated platform to capture detailed endurance stories that can often get lost on standard social media feeds. The platform allows users to import existing race reports via blog links, Word documents, or PDFs, or write new ones to share across external channels via public links.

In addition to personal race reports, Palena offers searchable features that allow athletes to explore content based on parameters such as experience, finish times, and equipment. The platform also supports race and equipment reviews, product updates from manufacturers, and race organiser news.

Lars Ronning, Founder at Palena, said “We don’t want athletes to have to choose between Palena and the communities they already use. Palena is where the story can live. Social media is one of the many places where you can share it. And if you’ve spent the last ten years writing race reports on a blog or saving them as documents, we don’t want you to start from scratch. Bring those stories with you.”

Ronning added “Race results tell you what happened on the clock. They don’t tell you what happened to the person.”

To mark the launch, Palena has introduced its Founding Athletes Program. The first 1,000 users who join, complete a profile, and publish a story will receive partner benefits and an individually serial-numbered Palena Founding Athlete cap.

The platform’s initial focus spans triathlon, running, cycling, swimming, cross-country skiing, and HYROX, targeting English-speaking endurance communities in the United States, Western Europe, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.

Palena was developed by a team including Lars Ronning, April Yoho, Steve Moody, Pete Pastides, and Rachel Laidler, based on an original concept by Claus Lundholm. The platform is available on the web and as an Android app via Google Play, with an iOS version pending release in Apple’s App Store.
