New York Road Runners (NYRR) has unveiled the professional athlete field for the 2026 TCS New York City Marathon, which takes place on November 1, 2026.
The lineup features three defending champions, 40 Olympians and Paralympians, 25 Olympic, Paralympic and World Championships medalists, and 22 national record holders.
This year’s race will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the five-borough course, which was first run in 1976. To mark the milestone, NYRR is welcoming past champions to participate in race-week festivities, including 1976 men’s champion Bill Rodgers and Danielle Mika Nagel, daughter of 1976 women’s champion Miki Gorman.
Defending champions Hellen Obiri, Benson Kipruto, and Marcel Hug will return to headline the women’s open division and men’s open and wheelchair divisions. Last year, Obiri broke the course record en route to her second title, while Kipruto won the men’s open division by less than one second on his event debut. Hug extended his record with a seventh title.
Along with Obiri, the women’s open division features sub–2:20 athletes including 2024 champion Sheila Chepkirui, three-time Olympic champion Sifan Hassan, Gotytom Gebreslase, Viola Cheptoo, and Edna Kiplagat. The American field is led by half marathon record holder Weini Kelati making her marathon debut, alongside Annie Frisbie, Jess McClain, Fiona O’Keeffe, Carrie Ellwood, Erika Kemp, and Amanda Vestri.
Facing Kipruto in the men’s open division are former champions Geoffrey Kamworor and Abdi Nageeye. International contenders include Deresa Geleta, Huseydin Mohamed Esa, CyBrian Kotut, Patrick Dever, Andreas Almgren, Iliass Aouani, Yeman Crippa, Peter Lynch, and Haftu Strintzos. The American field features Conner Mantz, Zouhair Talbi, Paul Chelimo, Casey Clinger, Ryan Ford, Joe Klecker, and Joel Reichow.
In the women’s wheelchair division, course record holder Catherine Debrunner and five-time champion Tatyana McFadden return alongside Eden Rainbow-Cooper and Madison de Rozario. The men’s wheelchair field includes defending champion Hug alongside Tomoki Suzuki, David Weir, three-time champion Daniel Romanchuk, Jetze Plat, and Evan Correll.
Prior to the main event, thousands of young runners aged 2–18 will participate in the TCS New York City Marathon Kids Kickoff during race week.
