Performance footwear and hybrid/fitness racing specialist R.A.D has confirmed the launch of its second running shoe, the R.A.D SYNTH. The new model is positioned as a lightweight daily trainer and versatile ‘workhorse’ following the brand’s entry into the shoe category with the UFO super trainer in October 2025.
The R.A.D SYNTH shoe is scheduled for release at select retail partners on April 2, 2026, followed by an international online launch on April 9, 2026. According to the company, the SYNTH is designed to ‘disappear on the foot’, transitioning between easy miles, steady efforts, and up-tempo training sessions.
The geometry of the shoe is neutral, intended to allow a runner’s natural mechanics to function without over-correction. The midsole features SwellFoam, a material composed of Thermoplastic Polyester Elastomer (TPEE) and 40% bio-based ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA). This is paired with an engineered mesh upper and a herringbone outsole made from the brand’s signature high-traction rubber.
Key technical specifications include:
- Weight: 232g (based on a US M9)
- Heel stack: 38mm
- Drop: 6mm
Ben Massey, Founder and CEO of R.A.D, said “The response we received for the UFO was incredible and showed the running world what we have to offer. Creating a true daily trainer with the SYNTH was the next logical step in expanding our roster, whilst staying true to producing footwear that celebrates the euphoric feeling that running and training produces.”
Based in Portland, OR, R.A.D was founded in 2019 by Ben Massey, a former CrossFit competitor and gym owner. The brand initially established itself within the CrossFit and training markets before expanding into running.
The product development team includes Blue Benadum, Head of RED and Running Product Manager, and Tom Berend, Head of Design and Innovation. Tom Berend was previously a lead innovator at the Nike Innovation Kitchen, while Blue Benadum is known as a co-founder of The Speed Project and a two-time Boston Marathon pro fielder.
The R.A.D SYNTH will retail for US$140 / £120. It will be available in six colour variants, including Off White, Goth Black, Raindrops, Acid Green, Fuchsia Flash, and Blue Flash.
