At the recent London T100 Triathlon weekend, the Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) and international governing body World Triathlon showcased the brand identity and initial 2027 event calendars for the new Triathlon World Tour.
The update outlined schedules for the T50 and T100 World Championship Tours as PTO and World Triathlon seek to transition the sport of triathlon into a unified competition framework ahead of the LA28 Olympic qualification cycle.
World Triathlon President Antonio Arimany highlighted the necessity of restructuring the sport’s commercial and competitive framework.
“Our sport was really fragmented from a competition and commercial perspective, which was holding it back,” Antonio Arimany, President at World Triathlon, said. “We could have waited until the end of the current Olympic qualification before making the changes, but the changes we’re making were too important to wait.
“By introducing the Triathlon World Tour now we are creating one unified structure and brand which can unify as many events as possible, creating a win-win situation for all of us in the sport.
“This agreement matters because it’s about growing our sport for the long term. Athletes and National Federations deserve more, and better, racing opportunities, and that’s exactly what the Triathlon World Tour is designed to deliver.
“World Triathlon has worked hand in hand with private event organisers since day one, and our partnership with the PTO is proof that this collaborative approach works. Bringing that same spirit to the whole Triathlon World Tour is how we make our sport bigger and better for everyone involved.”
The concept of the Triathlon World Tour was originally announced by the PTO and World Triathlon in December 2025 following a Deloitte Report commissioned by World Triathlon to assess the sport.
The joint ambition of the two organisations is to combine the existing T100 Triathlon World Tour and the World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS), which are being rebranded as the T100 World Championship Tour and T50 World Championship Tour respectively.
These two tiers will serve as the top level of professional racing under the new structure, concluding with official World Champions crowned at dedicated World Championship Finals for both distances.
Below the World Championship level, the structure will feature a ‘Challenger’ tier designed to serve as an official qualification pathway. This tier will incorporate former World Triathlon Cup races alongside several Challenge Family events acquired by PTO in February 2026.
All tour events are planned to feature professional racing, broadcast coverage and mass-participation amateur events.
The full Triathlon World Tour structure is being rolled out in two phases. Following this initial calendar release, details regarding remaining Championship and Challenger dates, prize money allocations, and updated qualification criteria will be presented at the World Triathlon Congress in Pontevedra on September 23, 2026.

- April 24–25, 2027 – Samarkand Triathlon
- May 15–16, 2027 – Yokohama Triathlon
- June 5–6, 2027 – Rome Triathlon
- July 16–18, 2027 – Los Angeles Triathlon (Venice Beach, CA)
- August 21–22, 2027 – London Triathlon
- September 8–12, 2027 – Hamburg Triathlon World Championship Finals
- September 25–26, 2027 – Weihai Triathlon
- November 20–21, 2027 – Tauranga Triathlon
The preliminary 2027 T100 World Championship Tour calendar includes:
- March 20–21, 2027 – Gold Coast Triathlon
- April 10–11, 2027 – Singapore Triathlon
- June 5–6, 2027 – Sokin San Francisco Triathlon
- August 14–15, 2027 – Vancouver Triathlon
- September 18–19, 2027 – Marbella Triathlon
- November 26–27, 2027 – Saudi Arabia Triathlon
- December 10–11, 2027 – Qatar Triathlon World Championship Finals
- Date TBC – French Riviera Triathlon

“One of the interesting things we’re seeing at the moment is a huge growth in mass participation brands like the World Marathon Majors and HYROX, which reflects the changing habits of sports fans more generally, who want to do more than watch from the sidelines and are seeking active and immersive ways to become part of the experience.

This comes alive today through the ’T-naming system’ – starting with T100 and T50 – and putting the ‘T’ of Triathlon at heart of the Triathlon World Tour.
“This is about recalibrating the sport and creating a pathway for every professional and amateur athlete to experience, enjoy, as well as creating an attractive commercial platform to bring more sponsors and host cities into our great sport.”
