The obstacle course racing (OCR) challenge, World’s Toughest Mudder, is set to return to the UK on June 27–28, 2026. Organised by Spartan Race, which acquired the brand in 2020, the 24-hour non-stop endurance event will take place at Belvoir Castle in Leicestershire, central England.
This marks only the second time the event has been held in the UK. Participants will face a brutal, round-the-clock format consisting of five mile laps. The course includes deep mud, ice-cold water, and a series of evolving obstacles designed to test physical strength and mental resilience.
The specific course layout is typically revealed only on the day of the event. Competitors can choose to race as individuals or as part of a relay team of up to four people. OCR athletes will navigate the terrain through daylight and darkness, with the event continuing through the night until the 24-hour limit is reached.
Set against the backdrop of Belvoir Castle, the event will include a dedicated event village. This area will feature live DJs and food trucks to support both the participants and their pit crews. These crews, often made up of friends and family, provide essential logistical and emotional support to the athletes during the 24-hour challenge.
According to Tough Mudder, the event is regarded as the pinnacle of obstacle course racing, focusing on grit and camaraderie rather than just pace. The UK date on June 27–28, 2026, follows the brand’s international expansion of its ‘Toughest’ and ‘World’s Toughest’ formats.
