Xtra Mile Events is bringing triathlon action back to Leeds in 2013 with the Leeds Xpress Triathlon on 28 July and the Leeds Triathlon on 8 September. Both triathlons are popular and well-established events, attracting triathletes of all levels across northern England and beyond.
Xtra Mile Events notes that triathlon is one of the fastest growing sports in terms of popularity, media coverage and number of participants, with athletes being inspired by the Brownlee brothers’ worldwide success and achievements.
Based in the Brownlee’s home city, the Leeds Xpress and Leeds Triathlon are positioned as the perfect races to take part in for triathletes of all ages and levels, from elite through to amateurs and novices.
Race Director Simon Hill commented “The Leeds Xpress and the Leeds Triathlon are important races on the UK triathlon circuit, and both take place at fantastic venues for competitors and spectators. We look forward to bringing some triathlon action back to Leeds in 2013 and hope to attract some new athletes to the sport as well.

Leeds Xpress Triathlon
The Leeds Xpress Triathlon is based at the Grammar School at Leeds and consists of a 400m swim in the 6 lane heated indoor pool, a challenging 22.6K out and back cycle along the rolling, picturesque A61 and a 5.4K off road run. This is billed as the perfect race for novices who want a challenge as well as experienced sprint distance enthusiasts. Entry fees for the Leeds Xpress Triathlon are £42 for individuals and £55 for teams; and entry closes on 24 July or when sold out.
The Leeds Xpress Triathlon is also part of the Xtra Mile Events Tri Sprint Series with five pool-based triathlons of sprint distance taking place around the North West of England, but competitors can register for the Leeds Xpress Triathlon as a single event only.
Leeds Triathlon
The Leeds Triathlon on 8 September starts with a 1.5K open water swim in Waterloo Lake, continues with a very scenic and fast 44K cycle leg and finishes with a 9K run in Roundhay Park where triathletes will be cheered on by the huge crowds that the race attracts.
The sprint distance offers an easier alternative with a 750m swim, a 24K cycle and a 6.4K run. The Leeds Triathlon starts and finishes in Roundhay Park and always sees the park buzzing with spectators and the local community showing their support for the event.
Transition, the main hub of the event, takes place in the park and provides an exciting spectacle for those who just want to watch. Entry fees for the Leeds Triathlon are £62 for individuals or £75 for teams, with entries closing on 5 September or when sold out.
