Bavarian Triathlon Federation back on board with Deutsche Triathlon Union

Following the recent appointment of Tobias Heinze as the new President of the Bavarian Triathlon Federation (BTV), the regional tri association has now re-joined the fold with national governing body the Deutsche Triathlon Union (DTU).

As noted by triathlon blog, DNF Is No Option, this followed a unanimous decision that was taken, on Saturday 12 January, by Germany’s 15 other state associations and the national umbrella organization – the DTU.

New BTV President Tobias Heinze had made it a priority to bring BTV back within the DTU family – having met all necessary conditions for the resumption. The BTV had previously been isolated, under the leadership of former BTV President Peter Pfaff.

The Bavarian Triathlon Association (BTV – Bayerischen Triathlon Verband) experienced major unrest in 2012 when it was excluded from Germany’s national governing body, the Deutsche Triathlon Union (DTU).

The BTV was reportedly excluded from the DTU following a financial dispute over the annual sum of around €15000, for the last few years, which had been due to DTU, and added up to an estimated €50000.

This disputed amount centred around funds obtained via triathletes in Bavaria; those athletes that are not members of the BTV but are counted and submitted via local sports clubs to the state sports associations (Landessportbund Bayern).

A modernisation of BTV is the expected next step in rehabilitating the regional tri association.
