Life Time Tri partners with Leon’s Triathlon to create the Chicagoland Tri Series

Life Time – ‘The Healthy Way of Life Company’ – has formed a partnership between its Life Time Tri Chicago event and the Leon’s Triathlon to create the Chicagoland Tri Series. As triathlon participation continues to soar in the US, and in the Chicago area, the partnership seeks to engage both individual athletes and teams through special incentives and increased competition.

The Leon’s ‘World’s Fastest’ Triathlon takes place in Wolf Lake Park, in Hammond, Indiana – part of the East Chicago area and adjacent to the Chicago metropolis.

“The Chicagoland market represents the nation’s fourth largest collection of triathletes and two of the country’s oldest and iconic races, Leon’s and Chicago,” said Leon Wolek, Founder of Leon’s Triathlon. “Working with Life Time Tri Chicago stimulates affinity from the local athletes who participate in our city’s best races and acknowledges how special our local triathlon community is.”

In the spirit of the new Chicagoland Tri Series collaboration, Leon’s ‘World’s Fastest’Triathlon will introduce The Life Time Tri Speed Trap, a designated one-mile, chip-timed straightaway. Triathletes will have the ability to push themselves to their absolute limits and awards will be issued to the top three fastest male and female participants.

Participant’s finish times in both events will also be combined and tabulated to create an overall Chicagoland Tri Series score. The top three performing scores in each male and female age group will earn special awards. In addition, the Life Time Tri Chicago event will add a team challenge in which the top performing teams at both events are eligible for overall series awards.

“Our partnership with Leon’s Triathlon helps us further the pioneering spirit that put Chicago on the triathlon map,” said Scott Hutmacher, Marketing Manager for the Life Time Tri Chicago. “The Life Time Tri Chicago and Leon’s Triathlon are highly regarded and we are thrilled to establish this unique opportunity as part of our broad portfolio of triathlons and other running and cycling events.”

In order to qualify for Chicagoland Series perks, participants must opt in through a new Chicagoland Tri Series website and compete in and finish both the 2013 Leon’s Triathlon and Life Time Tri Chicago.

Leon’s Triathlon is an International/Olympic distance race hosted annually at Wolf Lake Park in northwest Indiana. The ‘World’ Fastest Triathlon’ is a nationally broadcasted event celebrating its 30th anniversary on Sunday 2 June 2013. Participants swim, bike, and run on a closed course through Northwest Indiana.

Leon’s Triathlon is viewed by millions of households across the US nation on Comcast SportsNet – premiering on the 4 July weekend.

Leon’s Triathlon developed one of the nation’s largest Team Challenge programs, and avidly supports a variety of charities, including Team In Training, Team RWB and Tri-Masters Youth Programs. Last year’s race brought in more than 750 triathletes from around the nation. The race weekend also features an interactive Demo Day – showcasing a variety of active lifestyle clinics and products within a festival-like atmosphere.
