10th Eurobike Award – registration deadline on 21 July 2014

The start of registration for the 2014 Eurobike Award is now underway, with a deadline for entries on 21 July 2014. The show organisers note that the large area in the centre of Messe Friedrichshafen’s West Foyer is one of the spots most coveted by exhibitors during Eurobike, the ‘world’s leading trade show for the bicycle industry.’

The products that are presented here have received the Eurobike Award after undergoing the intense scrutiny of a six-member expert jury. Product innovations can now be registered for the 10th edition of the prestigious award, which will use a new selection process this year.

Visitors who enter the turnstiles at Messe Friedrichshafen’s West Entrance quickly find themselves in the midst of one of the highlights of the bike exhibition at Lake Constance, Germany. Here in the West Foyer, the winners of the Eurobike Award are traditionally presented in a special show during Eurobike, which this year will open its doors from 27-30 August.

Last year, 496 products from 30 countries competed for this honour, which for many years has internationally been considered to be one of the bike industry’s most important design awards.

Products that receive the Eurobike Award are considered state of the art in the bike category. They combine innovative functions and characteristics with ‘sustainability, extraordinary design and exceptional quality’. Last year, the Eurobike Award jury awarded the coveted seal of approval to 61 products. Ten of these products received the Eurobike Gold Award, marking them as the best of the best.

This year, as the organizer of the award, Messe Friedrichshafen is taking a new approach to its awards presentation. For the first time, the German Designer Club has agreed to serve as the award jury partner. The club brings its many years of experience in organizing and presenting the renowned design competition ‘gute gestaltung – good design’ to this partnership.

“The Eurobike Award has established itself as one of the most important measures of quality of design and innovation in the bicycle market,” said Klaus Wellmann, CEO of Messe Friedrichshafen.

“To understand the award’s relevance, you only have to see the enormous interest among the Eurobike’s visitors in this special show – and exhibitors’ enthusiasm for it – with your own eyes. But nothing is so good that it can’t be made even better. And that’s what we want to demonstrate this year in cooperation with the German Deisgner Club.”

Stefan Reisinger, Head of the Eurobike and Outdoor shows at Messe Friedrichshafen, added “For visitors and exhibitors at the Eurobike, the criteria used in selecting the winners of the award were sometimes hard to understand without insight into the jury’s decision-making process.

“This year, we want to respond with a more open and transparent presentation of the award. Fewer products will receive the award, but they will be presented in a more professional way. The intent is to give the special award show at the Eurobike an informative character and for it to offer more practical benefit.”

Companies in the bicycle industry may register their new product innovations for consideration for the award online at www.eurobike-award.de until 21 July 2014, in the following categories:

  • Cross Bikes
  • Racing Bikes
  • Urban Bikes

On 12-13 August 2014, the six-member expert jury will select the winners of the Eurobike Award. The industry will learn which companies and products have won the prestigious award on 27 August 2014 at the official awards ceremony during the 2014 Eurobike show in Friedrichshafen.
