The London Triathlon continues to be a highlight event of the UK triathlon calendar, which in addition to thousands of general participants sees a high calibre elite field compete at the event as part of the British Triathlon Super Series.
Jon Ridgeon, British Triathlon Director for Major and National Events said “We are delighted to have the iconic London Triathlon once again as part of the British Triathlon Super Series. As one of the world’s largest triathlon’s, the London Triathlon makes triathlon available for thousands of athletes of all abilities whilst showcasing fantastic elite triathletes in the capital, which is exactly what the Super Series stands for.”
In 2014 the London Triathlon saw elite triathletes, keen amateurs, celebrities, fundraisers and triathlon first-timers come together to swim, bike and run across London, aged from 18-76 and spanning 40 countries.
James Robinson, Managing Director of IMG Challenger World said “the London Triathlon is the most exciting event in the triathlon calendar. As the biggest mass participation triathlon in the world it gives participants the opportunity to push themselves to their limits and achieve the accolade of competing at this iconic London event. We look forward to welcoming back participants in 2015, and can’t wait to host another fantastic event.”
Every year the London Triathlon attracts a wide variety of competitors and last year was no exception with Olympic swimmer Mark Foster taking on the course in a charity relay competing alongside professional road cyclist Rob Hayles and TV presenter Jenni Falconer. Other famous faces on day one included rugby player Josh Lewsey, who completed the Olympic distance, plus celebrities Michelle Heaton and Matt Evers who were both competing in sprint team relays in support of the Official Gold Charity Macmillan Cancer Support.
The event also saw paralympians Liz Johnson, Jody Cundy and Danny Crates form a team to complete the sprint distance relay. With a host of Paralympic medals and records between them, the athletes completed the course each in their respective sports.
The London Triathlon also provides a platform on which charities can raise awareness and funds for their incredible causes. Participants can choose to take a charity place at the event; and every year participants at the event help to raise more than £2 million, most notably for the event’s Official Gold Charity Macmillan Cancer Support.
