Velocio-SRAM mechanic leads World Bike Packing Championship at halfway point

4 mechanics down, 4 to go! For those who have missed it all so far, Scicon Bags has launched the first ever World Bike Packing Championship. This new tournament gives pro cycling team mechanics the opportunity to compete against one another to prove that they are the fastest bike-packer in the peloton.

The tournament kicked off with mechanic Christophe Desimpelaere from Tinkoff-Saxo, the man who regularly preps and packs Alberto Contador’s bikes for travel. He packed the team edition AeroComfort 2.0 in just under 4 minutes which placed him as provisional 2nd.

Then was the turn of Lampre-Merida mechanic Sergio Vigano who packed the bike bag in 5 minutes and 24 seconds, followed by Sebastian Nittke from Velocio-SRAM who smashed it with a time of 3 minutes and 29 seconds which placed him in provisional 1st place.

Orica-Greenedge mechanic Alberto Chiesa was the fourth to pack the AeroComfort 2.0 and did so in a very respectable time of 4 minutes and 22 seconds placing him as provisional 3rd.

The mechanics still to come are:

  • Roger Theel from Trek Factory Racing
  • Axel Genet from AG2R-La Mondiale
  • Klas Johansson from MTN-Qhubeka
  • James Griffin from Cannondale-Garmin
