New marathon and half marathon at Hever Castle Festival of Endurance

Hever Castle Tri family finish

Having recently unveiled a Mixed Relay event format for 2017, the expanding Castle Triathlon Series is introducing a new marathon and half marathon to a ‘Festival of Endurance’ at Hever Castle. The company adds that the new run events will add to the exhilarating and atmospheric programme of ‘going long’ at the stunning Hever Castle on Sunday 9 July 2017.

The Marathon
The Festival of Endurance will host its first marathon in 2017 at the iconic Hever Castle. As the Castle Triathlon Series organisers explain… ‘Forget the city marathon, and fill your lungs with country air and stunning scenery before you conquer your marathon by a Castle drawbridge.’ This new marathon promises the ‘most stunning on and off road course in the UK, a truly motivational and beautiful route that will distract you from the challenge itself.’

The four-laps take in two castles, two lakes, quaint Kentish villages with oust houses and castle grounds with ‘spectators and locals cheering you on all the way’!

Steve Berry has competed in the Bastion full long distance triathlon at Hever Castle for three years running taking in the marathon leg of the swim/bike/run event. He said, “The marathon course of the Bastion is a challenging but highly rewarding one, the sights as you run around the castle grounds and the surrounding lanes of Hever and Chiddingstone always keep your mind occupied.

“You pass through beautiful castle grounds of both Hever Castle and Chiddingstone Castle and the support from the marshals and spectators alike is wonderful. [There are] 4 laps so it is easy to break down into manageable 10.5km chunks. It is a nice mixture of tarmac roads, bridleways and grass fields. If you like a different type of run course, then this course is for you.”

The Half Marathon
Athletes can also take on a two lap half marathon at the 2017 Festival of Endurance. The Castle Tri Series team add that ‘there is a big celebration with a medal and finishing line banquet as competitors cross the finishing line by the Castle drawbridge’.

The Festival of Endurance is part of the Castle Triathlon Series programme offering a ‘triathlon festival and stunning courses’. There are a variety of races and training options on offer including: The Bastion (full distance), The Gauntlet (half distance), the new marathon & half marathon – as well as an Aquabike, Long Swim, Aquathon and more. The swim loop has become well known for its unique loop around 3-acre island under bridges lined with spectators.
