Entries for next year’s Sandman Triathlon powered by Suunto are now open; and the organising team at Always Aim High Events has also introduced a half iron distance to the race weekend on 16-17 September 2017.
Complementing the triathlon weekend, the Sandman Legend is billed as aa true challenge which features a 1.9 km swim in the clear, warm waters off Llanddwyn beach. The swim is then followed by a 93 km cycle on the undulating country roads that criss-cross Anglesey in North Wales. Rounding off the triathlon is a challenging 25 km trail run along the sandy paths of Newborough forest, ending in a sprint to the finish along Llanddwyn beach.
The Sandman has become an increasingly popular event in North Wales, with lots going on across the weekend. The action starts on Saturday with the Sandman Sprint. This will see individuals tackle a 400 metre swim, 25 km road cycle and 5 km trail run.
Also taking place on Saturday is the Junior Triathlon. This event will give young people from far and wide the opportunity to ‘compete and experience the atmosphere of a world class, televised event’. The Junior Triathlon is open to anyone between the ages of 8 and 16.
Sunday will see the action shift to the Sandman Full and Legend distances. Full competitors will be joined by the Savage participants who will compete in a 1,000 metre swim, 60 km cycle and 10 km trail run.
The Sandman Triathlon is the third and final event in the Always Aim High ‘Adventure Triathlon Series 2017’, and the winners of the series will be crowned on the Sunday afternoon of the race weekend. The two other races in the series are the Slateman and Snowman.
