CEEPO Bikes has this month confirmed the signing of US professional triathlete Andy Potts to ride for the brand in 2018. Potts will ride the CEEPO Viper-R for the upcoming season – with a new triathlon superbike reportedly in the works from the Japanese firm.
“Look up ‘professional triathlete’ in the dictionary, and you’ll see a picture of Andy Potts,” said CEEPO’s Global Sales & Marketing Director, Marc-Andre Perron. “He’s a perennial Top 10 Kona finisher, top American male contender, and one of the most genuine guys you’ll ever meet in the sport of triathlon.”
“CEEPO has thought about everything when building a tri specific superbike,” said Andy Potts. “Aerodynamics, ride, position, fit, hydration, and feel – al to make sure you’re fast and ready to run. The more I learn about what my body needs and how to prepare to be my best, the more I need to think about the little things. CEEPO has made my job easier by building bikes to meet every triathlete’s needs.
“Combine all of this with the things we will be doing to grow the sport of triathlon and my racing team, and I am really excited for what is to come.”
CEEPO’s Marc-Andre Perron added, “Andy will be a tremendous asset both on and off the bike. His input will help guide the development of the next-generation CEEPO race machine, and his charisma and passion for the sport of triathlon provides an engaging presence to the brand.”
For 2018, Potts will maintain his typical race schedule, competing in various full IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 qualifiers, and ultimately the Kona IRONMAN World Championships in October.
Founded by Nobuyuki ‘Joe’ Tanaka, who started racing triathlon in 1990, CEEPO is named after one of the greatest ancient Samurai warriors, Ceepho. In an ongoing search to build the ‘best triathlon specific carbon fibre bicycles’, Tanaka started forming what would become the brand’s unique frameset shape. Joe Tanaka continued his quest for the ultimate machine by visiting various carbon frame producers. In 2002, he joined forces with a manufacturer from Taiwan and started with small quantity productions. CEEPO was officially formed in Aichi, Japan, in 2003.
